SCHOOL “STORMED”
CLASSES "STAGGERED
LONDON, Ocl. 15. Hundreds of children waited at St. Mary's Church Hall. Plaistow, E.. when the vicar opened the first "wartime school” in London. When more than 500 youngsters arrived classes had to be “staggered’’ yesterday to give each child a chance.
A rifle range under the church has been converted into an air raid shelter, and West Ham Council has supplied trained teachers. Only a hundred children were expected.
