GISBORNE PARK REPORT POPULARITY INCREASES
"The accounts show an excess ot j income over expenditure for the year j of '£ll6 18s 4d, and, compared with! last year’s excess of only 11s Bd, the! figure is very satisfactory. It is a j tribute to the increasing popularity : of the course,” slates the annual re- j port of the Gisborne Park Golf Club.; The annual meeting of the club will j take place to-morrow evening. j The report continued that it had I been found impossible by (lie commit-1 mittce to obtain a sole lease ol the grounds required, but that it haci secured a joint lease with the Poverty Bay Turf Club for five years. Further improvements were carried out to the clubhouse during the year,; and £92 10s still had to be refunded ; to members for loans that assisted in ■ the building of the clubhouse. 11 was j regretted that the extra cost of drain- ; age work prevented the repayment ol the amount from the general funds, i However, it was intended to repay the 1 loans during the coming years. ' Four new greens were opened for; play during the season, and improvements were carried out on the fair-; ways and approaches to the greens, j Some of the greens were fenced to j prevent damage being done by sheep, j The new putting green was proving ! a great benefit. j An extensive programme of work; had been set down for the off-season, including the laying of several new; greens and the installation of a water j supply for the greens most in need ‘ of it. The appreciation of the club was; extended to the groenkeepor, Mr. Jaclcj Mansfield, his assistant. Mr. J. Siinp-j son, and others who had rendered; service in an honournrv capacity, j greatly assisting in the success of the; season’s play.
