DELAY IN PAYMENTS
SOLDIERS’ WIVES’ MONEY REMEDIAL ACTION (For Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. In reply to representations made by the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Adam Hamilton, to the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, after Mr. Hamilton had visited Hopuhopu camp at Ngaruawahia, the Minister stated that he had anticipated there would be no further cause for complaint in regard to the payment of moneys to the wives and children of soldiers in camp. He admitted that some unavoidable delays had occurred in this regard, but suitable remedial action had been taken when the matter came under the Minister's notice. The Minister also undertook to look into the question of improving the structure of the cookhouses at the camp. Mr. Jones expressed appreciation of Mr. Hamilton's action in making a public statement after his visit to the camp and for his helpful co-operation in his work as Minister of Defence.
