RAIN NEEDED IN H.B.

RESTRICTION ON HOSING

The absence ol rain in Hawke s Bay during recent weeks is rapidly assuming serious proportions. Following a week-end when intensified gardening operations resulted in a heavy draw-off which is reported to have reduced the level of the town reservoir from 13ft. to just over 3ft., the authorities in Hastings have decided to restrict the hosing of gardens to one hour a day. It is not thought necessary to interfere with the use of water for household and domestic purposes, as there are still ample supplies available for the normal use of the town.

It has been estimated that during the dry weather the daily consumption of water in Hastings lias risen to nearly 120 gallons a head of population, or more than double the normal wet weather requirements.
