Last Night’s Forecast.
General situation: The anti-cyclone in tiie north is moving away eastward, and a depression has commenced to cross the country, its centre being in the south.
Forecast: Winds moderate to .strong north-westerly prevailing from Canterbury and Westland northwards and reaching gale force in the middle portion of the Dominion, southerly predominating; in the south and moderate to fresh southerlies or south-wester-lies advancing northwards. Seas; In New Zealand waters, rough south of Cape Egrnont and about Cook Strait, slight or moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northerly winds, with a change to gradually decreasing south-westerlies or southerlies advancing from the west and south; seas, rather rough to rough. Weather: Cloudy to overcast and in places misty, with rain at times in most districts, but falls only light and scattered in Auckland and Hawke's Bay. Temperatures: Becoming cooler from the south, with conditions later improving slowly. To-day’s North Island Report Overcast conditions were general throughout the North Island to-day. north-westerly winds, strong on the East Coast, being reported from Napier northwards and a light southerly in Wellington. The barometer had a falling tendency. Temperatures at 9 a.m. were: -Auckland 62 degrees, Tauranga 70, Oootiki 65, East Cape 63. Gisborne 70, Napier 74. and Wellington 55. Seas were slight to moderate, except at Wellington, where rough seas were reported. Midday Forecast General Situation: A disturbance covers ilie New Zealand area and is moving slowly eastward.
Forecast: Light to fresh north-west winds lending west or south-west tonight. Weather: Unsettled. with further scattered rain. Temperatures: Rather cooler. Seas: Slight to moderate.
