Cinemas and dances continued, the majority of the audiences remaining. The Air Ministry announced that warnings were sounded at Kent and the all-clear signal was given nearly two hours later. People of the Orkneys, warned by gunfire, saw an enemy reconnaissance plane over the Southern Isles, Sirens sounded soon afterwards and pursuit planes drove the raider out to sea. Nazi planes which flew over the Shetlands on Friday dropped heavy bombs as indicated by a hole in a hillside, while two objects were seer falling into the sea.
