Engineer’s Report In his report on county works, the engineer, Mr. C. Percy, staled that in the Arakihi riding the contract for bottom-course metalling on the Arakihi road has been completed. The metal had been blinded and the rolling was practically finished. The Kiore road had been regarded and alignments straightened. This work would be completed when opportunity allowed. The survey of Black’s road to the Pakarae River had been, completed. In the Tauwhareparae riding all roads were in fair order. The side roads to Tutamoe, Spencer's, and Murphy's were all being regraded. The main road from Mangantana stream to Loisel’s back whare was in very bad shape. It was intended that both graders and two extra men be employed over this area. A thorough examination had been made to determine the most advantageous points for the expenditure of the Public Works Department grant. Two small deviations would shorten the road and improve the grade. The balance of the grant would be expended on regrading, widening and realignment. Mangaheia riding roads had received attention. The Mangaheia station road had been regraded throughout. The Paremata road had been regraded and in parts scarified. When the present top-dressing had been well rolled a considerable improvement would be effected. As soon as possible a new bridge would be required on the Mangaheia station road. The present structure was of a temporary nature, and necessary repairs wqre being carried out to carry this season’s traffic.
In the Mangatokcrau Gorge protractive work had been carried out to save some new formation work just through the gorge. In the Mangatuna riding ordinary maintenance work had been carried out. The Tolaga riding had received attention. The rubbish dump had been cleaned up, and an effort would be made to compel the carters of refuse to tip their loads in the correct place. In the Hauiti riding all roads were in fair order. Mill road would be properly formed up when the grader was available. Certain portions of Waihau road required top-dressing. This dressing probably could bo obtained from the Public Works Department quarry at a small cost.
