DECLINE SHOWN LATELY TOTAL FOR NINE MONTHS Sales tax collected in September amounted to £293,848, an increase of £22,518 over the total l'or August, but a decrease of £2172 when compared with September, 1938. Although receipts in the first six months of this year showed substantial increases each month on the collections for the corresponding month of last year, receipts in July, August and September have all been smaller than those for the same months in 1938. Despite this recent downward trend, the total amount collected in the first nine months of this year, at £2,708,324, is 0 per cent higher than the total for the same period of 1938, which was £2,556,122.
