OBITUARY

Mr. William Ireland, one of the bestknown residents of the West Tamaki district, who had lived practically the whole of his fife in Auckland, has died. He was born in a Rouse on the corner of Victoria and Hobson streets 88 years ago.

Three-quarters of a century in Dunedin -and its environs were passed toy Mr. William Smith, who died in Dunedin last week in his eightysecond year. Mix Smith, who was well known in the grocery trade in Dunedin and also as a bowler, was born at Brackenhil, Kilmarnock, Scotland, in 1858, -and five years later he emigrated to Dunedin in the ship City of Dunedin with his parents and other members of the family.
