MASTERY OF TENNIS
"William T. Tilden was the complete lawn tennis player," states the American professional player, D. Budge in a book which he published a few weeks ago. "He had the greatest mastery of spin of any man or woman in "the history of the game. He had a cannon-ball service and blinding pace off the ground on both wings. He had one of the greatest pair of legs lawn tennis has ever known. He had the ideal height, as well as grace and litheness of movement, and he was always in condition. On top of all this he could give most of his opponents cards and spades in his knowledge of the game from A. to Z. He knew all the tricks, had all the devices, and had the brain to dictate when to make use of them." Incidentally, Tilden is exactly twice Budge's age. He is 46 and Budtre is 23.
