MAORI CONVICTED
INTOXICATED IN CAR ABOUT TO DRIVE OFF A Maori motorist, Atawhai Houraki, was convicted and lined £lO anc! costs when lie appeared on Wednesday before justices of the peace in the Opotiki Police Court. His license was cancelled ancl he was prohibited from obtaining another until ’May, 1941.
Constable W. 11. Cooper said that at G. 5 pair, on Tuesday lie "saw the accused in Church street in company with a number of other natives. Houraki was obviously under the influence of liquor and was about to start his car and drive off when he arrested him.
