The system of training for the Royal Air Force has now been extended on an Empire-wide scale. Apart from the main centre. Canada, where 2000 recruits are now training with a waiting list of between 10,000 and 15.000, training stations for Indian Air Force pilots are being opened in India, where the native princes have given large sums for the development of the air defence. The Nizam of Hyderabad is financing an entire air force squadron. Pilots are also being instructed in Iraq, where fuel is immediately available. and numbers of pupils from Aus- ■ tralia and New Zealand will be trained in Egypt under exceptionally favourable climatic conditions. An Indian Air Force Volunteer Reserve is being created and flights 1 are being established at Karachi, Bombay. Madras, Calcutta and Delhi. The nights will be primarily for coast defence duties in India. The estabI lishment of these flights is to be a : permanency and it is not an emer- ; gency measure. '

USE BY SHIPPING ORDER IN BRITAIN {British Official Wireless.) Reccl. 1 p.m. RUGBY. Nov. 15. The following order issued to-day is to apply to all vessels, not being either ships of war or hospital ships, except that it shall not apply to the Dominions or foreign vessels outside the territorial waters of the United Kingdom. “The use of flare-up lights shall be discontinued entirely. This order comes into force forthwith and may be . cited as the flare-up lights ships’ order, 1939.”
