SOLDIERS' FAMILIES BRITAIN’S RISING BILL (Rccd. Nov. 16, 9 a.m.) LONDON. Nov. 15. The Secretary of State for War, Mr. L. Hore-Belisha, announced that the increased allowance for soldiers’ wives and families became effective on November 13. He added that the £2 a week where the rent was out of relation to the existing allowance, would be increased and also the allotment for children after the first child by Is for the second and third and 2s for each subsequent child. The lowest scale for a household of eight children would be £2 11s a week, excluding rent. The consequent expenditure would, be £12,000,000, which he expected would be doubled in due course, in addition to the present amount of £25,000,000.
