“SET TILL XMAS”
FEED FOR STOCK GOOD PASTURE GROWTH GISBORNE POSITION BENEFIT FROM RAIN Although temperatures were cold during the past few days, the rain which fell throughout the Gisborne district and the East Coast was of great benefit to the pastures. The rain was timely, for the pastures were beginning to show the effects of the dry spell. Most of tne flat land had a good covering of grass, but an extension of the rainless period would have made farmers a little anxious regarding the summer fodder particularly if the drying winds had continued.
"We are set now until after Christmas,” was 'the term used by one Gisborne farmer to sum up the effects of the rain, which totalled 1.1 in. from Sunday up to yesterday.
Heavy Coast Rain
Areas on the East Coast were beginning to suffer similarly to the Gisborne district, particularly at the upper end. The Herald’s Tikitiki representative reports that rain commenced to fall in the northern part of the Coast on Sunday evening, when the wind changed to a cold southerly, which was severe on the newly-shorn sheep. The rain was of considerable benefit to pastures and gardens, which were starting to become dry. The rainfall recorded at "WaLroro,” Tikitiki, for the 48 hours ended at 9 a.m. on Tuesday was 3.10 in. All the rivers were fairly high.
