CAPTAIN A. KNIGHT

(Sl'rei.ll to tho IToraM.) WAIHOA, this (lay. The death occurred in the Wairoa Hospital on Tuesday night of Captain Arthur Knight, aged 73, one of the best-known figures in Wairoa. The late Captain Knight was born in Port Chalmers, and went to sea at the age of 12 years, lie followed the sea all his life, during which time lie made several voyages to the Antarctic in whaling and sealing vessels. He was engaged also for some lime in coastal boats.
Captain Knight came to Hawke's Bay nearly 40 years ago and joined the stall' of the Richardson Shipping Company and traded between Napier, Mohaka, Wairoa and East Coast ports. He later settled in Wairoa, being Ihe captain of the Tu Atu and other ships until the time of his retirement from flic service 14 years ago. Captain Knight was then appointed pilot to Hie Wairoa Harbour Board, a position which he occupied until last year, when he resigned. Captain Knight leaves a widow and a family of three sons and two daughters. They are: Mrs. A. Fyson and Miss A. H. Knight and Mr. F. 11. Knight, Wellington, Mr. A. V. A. Knight, West Coast, and Mr. R. Knight, Wairoa.
Nine or 10 weeks ago Captain Knight met with an accident, breaking a leg, and was admitted to hospital for treatment.
The funeral will leave Captain Knight’s residence this afternoon.
