ROTHERMERE EFFORTS BID TO AVERT WAR PRINCESS AS AGENT STORY TOLD IN COURT (Elkc. Tol. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Nov. 15, 2.40 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 14. The hearing of the action in which a Viennese, Princess Stefanie of Hohenlohe-Waldenbourg, the divorced wife of a Hungarian magnate, is suing Lord Rothermere for an alleged breach ot' contract concerning an appointment as Lord Rothermere’s personal foreign representative at a salary of £SOOO a year was continued to-day.
Lord Rothermere, cross-examined, said that the Daily Mail had not repaid him any of the money he had paid the princess. In January of 1938 lie ( gradually was severing his connection with the papers he controlled so there was no more employment for the princess. Counsel for the plaintiff, Mr, Beyfus, asked whether, in a letter, he had suggested to Herr Hitier a course of action which would have had most violent repercussions in Europe. Lord Rothermere said he was trying to prevent war between the two peoples. He admitted that In January of 1938, the princess was constantly visiting Herr Hitler and his entourage on his behalf. The visits would encourage rumours that she was a Nazi agent. The evidence was concluded.
