BROTHERS FOR TRIAL
THEFT ALLEGATIONS MACHINE-GUNS INVOLVED (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, lust night. The theft of two Hotchkiss machineguns, two tripod mountings, two spare barrels and one military service rifle from the drill hall at Ashburton, was denied in the Magistrate's Court today by two brothers, James Mervyn Philp, aged 20, and William Lewis Pliilp, aged 24.
There was a long series of charges relating to the conversion, of. motor cars, motor cycles and trucks and alleged thefts and burglaries in Christchurch and mid-Canterbury.
Both the accused were committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Six motor vehicles of a total value of .£2785 were allegedly converted while the value of goods alleged to have been stolen was £26G.
