GISBORNE MATCHES

BOWLERS’ ADVANTAGE

LOW BATTING FIGURES COLLAPSE OF G-MEN

During the early stages of Saturday's matches in the Poverty Bay Cricket Association’s competitions the scoring was exceptionally slow, but la f er the runs came more quickly. This fact was noticed more particularly in the B division, where several teams showed a recovery of form at an hour too late to affect the issue of their games.

Aided by a strong breeze, which . gave the ball a swing, the trundlcrs had the advantage, and during the afternoon only two batsmen reached the half-century mark. Following their previous week’s effort, when they knocked up the handsome .total of 220 runs against Marist, Civil Service created a surprise when they collapsed on Saturday in their match with G.H.5.0.8. Blues. K. Fleming, who took eight wickets for 24 runs, was largely responsible for the downfall of the Service batsmen. The best performances of the day were.— Batting Senior A. —C.
