Some bright cricket was witnessed in the matches played in the Wairoa Cricket Association's Hopper Shield competition on Saturday afternoon, two-point wins being secured by Rovers .and Nomads. ROVERS V. HIGH SCHOOL Rovers made 20-1 against High School, Nightingale (>G, Martin 41, and liowe 53, being the principal scorers, while McKenzie 14 and Croker 10 also made double figures. McLean took two wickets for 75 runs, Shad bolt four for 53, and Pilkington two for -10.

The school side ran up 112, of which Shadbolt, sen., made 38. Shadbolt, jun., 27. and Sutherland 21, McLean just getting into double figures. Martin took five wickets for It) runs, Bell one for 2, Croker two for 29, and McKenzie one for 29.

Rovers won on the first innings, the last school wicket falling five minutes before time. RETAILERS V. NOMADS Nomads batted first, and made 201. three batsmen having retired aftermaking good scores. In their second innings, following on. Retailers opened much more promisingly, and Halladay made 59 not out, six wickets being down for 92 when the game ended. Nomads won on the first innings.
