TRACK & STABLE

TAHARAKAU SCHOOLS RICHBLOQD’S FIRST RACE TE RAPA ENGAGEMENT OLD BILL VERY WELL By “Trenton” Taharakau, who ran prominently at the local meeting, was schooled over hurdles at the week-end and gave a promising display. Initial Appearance Richblood, by Hunting Song—Gazi, and a full-brother to Sly Fox, is to make his initial appearance at Te Rapa. Sly Fox will also make the trip. The latter is in first-class trim. Veteran Hurdler Ruafonn, the veteran hurdler, who has always displayed good form on the tracks but failed to reproduce it in his races, has been turned out for a long spell. One To Remember The A wap uni-trained Old Bill, has not been asked to do , any fast work since the Wellington meeting, but is in splendid order, and evidently the best has not been seen of the son of Siegfried and Liaison. .He may cause the more favoured horses a lot of trouble when the holiday racing comes round. Manawatu Next Colonel Bogey, without being unduly taxed, continues to please in his exercises. His racing at Trentham appears to have brought him on. His next outing will probably be at the Manawatu meeting.

Quadroon Recovered, Florence Mills has thrown off the soreness that prevented her putting in an appearance at Trentham, and is now among the horses given light tasks at Awapuni. Quadroon, who broke down badly in a foreleg a few weeks past—at the time it was thought his racing carer had come to an end — has made a wonderful recovery, and Wilson is able to give his charge light exercise. However, as the tracks are now on the hard side. Quadroon will not race for some time. A Short Spell

Tidewaiter has been spelling for a week and has been physicked. He will resume work next week.

Nicely Placed The Bigot is improving, and the Levin meeting may sec him nearly back to his best again. He is nicely placed in the Levin Handicap with 8.6, considering the opposition is not formidable. With A. Tricklebank in the saddle he strode nicely over seven furlongs at Awapuni on Saturday morning in 1.35 4-5,

English-bred Colt It is not often that a two-year-old practically English T bred is seen racing on Australian courses, but Warbird, who won the first division of the Toolamfaa Nursery on Caulfield Cup day, is such.

Warbird’s clam, Rock-a-Bye, was purchased in England by the South Australian studmaster, Mr. J. Keith Angas. Mr. Angas had her mated with Miracle, and. as she had apparently not become in foal to him, she was put to Shell Transport, and the result was Warbird. The colt, who is trained by S. B.’ Ferguson for Mr. W. Jackson, was fancied ancl well backed for his Caulfield win, and he stamped himself as a youngster of much promise.
