OPEN GOLF TITLE CONSISTENT FORM EWEN ROUND IN 69 GUY'S BRILLIANT START (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Conditions were more favourable for good scoring in the New Zealand open golf championship at Miramar this morning, the half-gale of yesterday having decreased considerably. Sixty players with the best aggregates in the first and second rounds, and those who tied for sixtieth place, are playing the third and fourth rounds to-day.

Public interest in the tournament has quickened, and when Mclntosh, who with A. R. Kitto leads the field, .Hai led out this morning with lan Ewen, a fairly large gallery watched his play.

Among those in early, T. S. Galloway, the Rotorua professional, handed in a good card of 74, the scratch for the course. He took 37 both ways and notched fine birdie fours at the long tenth and eleventh. W. J. Davidge, who plays off scratch at Titirangi. had a steady round of 75. Out in 38, including a six at the ninth (bogey four), he returned regulation figures on the inward journey. Apart from lapses on the fourth and fourteenth greens, where he took three putts, C. C. Clements, the Auckland professional, played well to record 75. Another player who showed improved form to-day was R. G. Holland (Waiwelu) who turned on a well-deserved 75. Near the end of the third round. J. D. Mclntosh was leading the field with a total of 223. He piayed another fine round for 74 this morning, maintaining his reputation for consistent form. The first player to break 70 was lan Ewen, the Hutt champion, who finished fifth in the open at Balmacewan last year. He played magnificently to-day to cover the course in 69; five under par, being out in '36 and in in 33, this figure including birdies at the tenth, eleventh, fourteenth, and fifteenth. Ilis putting was a strong feature of his play. A. E. Guy, the Poverty Bay professional, turned on sensational golf over the first nine holes, which he covered in 31. At the sixth he nearly holed his tec shot, the ball just lipping the cup. Coming in, Guy faded, the fifteenth hole costing him two over par, five. He lived up to his reputation for long driving by hitting stupendous tee shots. His card for the first nine read: 4,4, 3,2, 3,2, 5,4, 4 —3l, and included one eagle and four birdies.
