MAIZE IMPORTS
AFRICAN SHIPMENTS
FIRST DUE NEXT MONTH GISBORNE DELIVERIES With the past season’s maize crop being steadily decreased in Gisborne, it is understood that the Internal Marketing Department has made arrangements for the importation of supplies from South Africa to cover the Dominion’s requirements during the latter part of the season.
No details are available regarding the price at which the supplies will be sold, but it is understood that the first shipment will arrive next month, with a further supply in January. In the meantime, Gisborne supplies are going steadily into consumption at the ruling November rate of 5s Brl per bushel. The greatest part of the district crop has been shelled and delivered, and it is expected that by the beginning of the new year there will be little left unsold, with the exception of sufficient to cover local requirements until the new crop is harvested.
