BIGGEST CROWD YET
CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION
35,700 ON SATURDAY
OPENING OF PLAVLAND
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. More than 35,700 people visited the Centennial Exhibition on Saturday. Indeed. the evening crowd was the biggest and gayest that Rongotai has yet welcomed at any one time.
A real carnival spirit was noticeable. All parts of the buildings and grounds were thronged, even to the top of the tower. Playland and the cabaret went with a swing.
In the morning the GovernorGeneral, Lord Galway, opened Playland and, with Lady Galway and Government House children, tried out the principal rides and sideshows with apparent zest and enjoyment. Lord Galway's son, the Hon. Simon Monckton-Arundell, celebrated his tenth birthday by spending Saturday at the exhibition.
Saturday’s official attendance figures issued by the exhibition authorities were 35,759, almost as many visitors as on the opening day-. As the bulk of these were present in the evening, Saturday night was easily the best so far.
The total of attendances so far is 104,555,' which' is a daily average of 26,100, considerably greater than the average attendance at the Dunedin exhibition.
