Percheron Horses
Sir,—May I make, through your columns, an explanation lo correct a misunderstanding among some patrons of the A. and P. Show on Wednesday about the breeding of one of the exhibits? The yearling draught colt Boy Blue, by the Percheron, Kadlunga Templar, is out of a Clydesdale mare, Hayton Bell, No. 8415, and not, as thought by many, out of a light hackney mare, as this latter cross results in a weight-carrying hack. In parts of England weight-carrying hacks and hunters are bred by crossing a Percheron stallion with a thoroughbred mare, and the horse chosen to be presented to General Pershing on his return to the United States of America from France in 1919 was also bred in this way.
