CANNON BALL FOUND

EARLY TARANAKI RELIC Early days in the history of New Plymouth have been recalled by interesting relics found at Mikotahi Sugarloaf, at, the port of New Plymouth. They are a cannon ball and two hammers oIT old flintlock guns, and were found buried on top of the rock near the harbour beacon.

Little bigger than a cricket ball and weighing nearly 2j‘lb., the cannon ball fits a small cannon that now rests outside the New Plymouth Public Library. The flintlock hammers belonged to separate guns, for both are from the same side.
