TWO GISBORNE LINES At the Stortford Lodge stock sale, Hastings, 42 clean-bred yearling Hereford steers, medium-grown and in light condition sent down by road, were passed in at £2 12s Gd.
A line of 42 Polled Angits-Hereford cross bullocks, medium-grown and in light condition, though hardy, sent by road from Wairoa, were passed in at £ G 15s.
A Gisborne line of 80 well-bred dehorned Hereford steers in good order sold at £6 15s.
COMPANY EARNINGS A net-profit of £9013 is reported by tlie Bruce Woollen Manufacturing Company, Limited, Dunedin, for the year ended September 19. This compares with £ll9 in the previous year, £3154 in 1937, and £5872 in 1930. An ordinary dividend of 5 per cent is recommended, the first since 193 G, when 3 per cent was distributed.
A net profit of £11,876, against £9983 in 1938 and £8440 in 1937, is shown in the accounts of Westland Breweries, Limited, for the year ended June 30. A dividend of 10 per cent is proposed.
The net profit of Woolworths (New Zealand), Limited, for the year ended October 2, of £IIO,BOO, was struck after making provision for income tax of £108,500, In the previous year net profit was £125.212 after setting aside £98,000 for taxation.
