DAMAGE TO LAUNCH

FLOUR PLACED IN ENGINE Considerable damage was done by vandals to a launch which was moored on the Waihou River at Te Aroha for the winter. Damage was done to a polished table in the cabin, glasses were broken, and a mixture of fruit cordial and flour were sprinkled over the engine.

An attempt was made to force flour into the oil sump, but this was prevented by a fine wire-mesh strainer in the pipe. While repairs were being made it was found that the petrol had been removed from the emergency tank and sea water substituted. It is considered that this was done some time ago when the launch was using Thames as a base.
