POLICE FAREWELLS

SOCIAL CLUB FUNCTION

PRESENTATIONS MADE The police and their friends met last evening to farewell Sergeant L. T. Moore and Constable N. S. Milligan at a function arranged by the Gisborne Police Social Club. The officers, who are to be transferred to Wairoa and Auckland respectively, were prominent office-bearers in the club, Sergeant Moore having been the first chairman and Constable Milligan the present secretary.

There were 80 present at the gathering and the first part of the evening was passed playing cards. Items wcie contributed by Mrs. R. K. Marley, Miss V. McCarthy, and Mr. R. Sloan, songs: Mr. McFarlanc, novelty item. The accompanists wore Mrs. 11. Hunter and Miss McCarthy.

The presentation of a shaving outfit to Sergeant Moore and a silver watch to Constable Milligan was carried out by the Inspector of Police, Mr. G. B. Edwards, who referred to the splendid records of service registered" by the officers while in the district, and said that the two fully deserved their promotion Mesdames Moore and Milligan were presented with pretty posies by Mrs. R. K. Marley, and then Mr. Edwards, on behalf of the Gisborne staff, handed them each a crystal cream jug and siignr basin. Other sneakers were Senior-Ser-geant ,1. F. H. Mncnatnara, DetectiveSergeant R. 11. Watcrson, and Mr. RWatt. on behalf of the patrons of the social club

Suitable replies were made by the guests of honour. A posy was presented to Mrs. Hunter by Mrs. Marley for her services during the year as the club accompanist. The card prizes won during the evening were handed 1o the following winners by Sergeant Moore: Ladies.— Mrs. Robinson. Gentlemen. —Mr. L. Simpson. Other prizes were awarded to Mrs. Jory and Mr. G. C. Burns. Constable Milligan, who is to be stationed in Auckland as acting-sergeant will leave Gisborne next Tuesday. Sergeant Moore, who is to be in charge of the Wairoa station, will leave Gisborne on November 27, and will be replaced in Gisborne bv Sergeant A. Doel, Auckland.
