WASHINGTON DENIAL

SUGGESTION OF THREAT

WARNING TO JAPAN (Reed. Nov. G, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 4. The Tokio .correspondent of the United (Press of America, reported yesterday that the United States Ambassador, Mr. Joseph Grew, bluntly warned the Jaoanese Foreign Office of the danger of United States economic pressure if the present programme in China was continued. The correspondent stated that Mr. Grew said the United States Government expected the cessation of all anti-American action by the Japanese in China and also concrete evidence of the intention of the Japanese Government to effect an improvement in the situation. It was understood that the Japanese Foreign Minister replied that Japan was anxious to adjust her relations with third Powers, and felt that the adjustments should be correlated with the Japanese policy in supporting Wang Ching-Wei in China. The State Department in Washington denies, however, that the ambassador warned Japan that the United States Government was contemplating using economic pressure against Japan.
