NOTED CANADIAN

DEATH AT 73 YEARS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) OTTAWA, Nov. 3. The death has occurred of Mr. Hugh Guthrie, P.C., M.P.

Mr. Guthrie, who was born in Canada 73 years ago, was a member of the Canadian House of Commons since 1900. He was called to the bar in 1888 and became a King’s Counsel in 1902. Between 1917 and 1935 he held at different times the positions of Solicitor-General of Canada. Minister of Defence, Minister of Justice, leader of the Conservative Party and chairman of the Canadian Air Board. He was one of the delegates to the Imperial Conference in London in 1930 •and h.eaded the Canadian delegation to the League of Nations in 1931.
