Mr. McGillick’s Address
Sir,—Sir Walter Scott's famous poem has been applied to Mr. McGilliek. This gentleman did not decry his own country; he stated that if was necessary to watch carefully and ensure that our leaders did not install fascism in our countries. He would apply the poem to some of our leaders, who he claims have, by their policy of self-interest, endangered the lives and safety of our people, arid who. he states, have no particular country, their huge financial interests expanding to many countries. Patriotism does not mean placing on us an obligation to blindly follow our leaders and not criticise them. If it does, then democracy becomes a sham and it would mean that if I criticised our present New Zealand Government I would be unable to sign myself a patriot. TARTAN.
