A skilful theft resulted in a heavy loss to Mr. J. Humphries, Carterton. The thief ransacked the 24 hives of Mr. Humphries' aviary, extracting the frames complete with bees from 23. The twenty-fourth housed "wild” bees—a variety prone to sting on the slightest provocation and these were killed oil with sulphur.
