WORKING AFTER SPELL
BLACK THREAD IN WORK LOCALS DISAPPOINT . NAPIER PARK TEAM 15,v “Trenton” Trainer J. Nixon has put Black Thread back into work after a speli, and he appears big and well. This trainer also has a new addition to his string in a mare by Kincardine from Grey Eyes, who will race as Naughty Eyes. Disa ppoinling Although Okawa won at Napier Park and Queen’s Dream, Dusky Morn and Native Song filled minor places, taken as a whole the performance was disappointing, as the team, on paper, was the strongest that has left Gisborne for some time.
Isy Siegfried Yours Truly, winner of Saturday's New Zealand Cup, is by Siegfried from My Own, and is now a four-year-old. This horse appears to have a bright future ahead of him and may be valuable as a sire later on.
He is owned by Mr. J. .S. McLeod, president of the New Zealand Racing Conference. Nyola Unlucky Nyola, trained by .the ex-Gisbornc gentleman rider, R. Russell, was well fancied for live Spring Plate at Whangarei. After losing her rider and careering round for some distance before the start, Nyola eventually got away well, but she lost her position after going a furlong. She was forced over extra ground when making a forward move on the turn, otherwise she would have been much closer at the finish.
Eight 011 End Bcaulivrc's success 011 Saturday in the Stewards’ Handicap at Riccarton made his eighth successive win, and with a number of classic events in the next couple of months which appear to be at his mercy, and possibly a trip to Australia, he may prove a serious contender tor Gloaming’s record of 19 wins in a row. Whangarei Accidents There were a number of accidents at thp Whangarei meeting on Friday.
F. Cleaver, rider of Gamos in the Hikurangi Handicap, received a broken collarbone. A. Walker, rider of Valdene, suffered a badly-ricked back. Both were sent to hospital. G. Smith, the rider of First. Gold Money, suffered a badly bruised leg, but was aisle to get about later. R. W. McTavish, rider of Bright Idea in the Parahaki Handicap, received a severe shaking, but the other riders involved, G. Gilchrist and M. Ritchie,-escaped injury. When Maxam scored in the open sprint at Whangarei he returned the same dividend for a place as on the "wm” machine.
