WESTERN FRONT

CHURCHILL VISIT GERMAN AIR SCOUTS NORTHERN FRANCE LAND PATROL UNITS BOTH SIDES ACTIVE (Klnu Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Nov. G, 11.50 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 5. A French official communique issued this morning states: “The night generally was quiet on the Western Front. There was artillery action on both sides in the region east of the Blies River.”

The First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr. Winston Churchill, arrived at the British Expeditionary Force headquarters in France and lunched with Viscount General Gort.

A Paris report states that a dozen German scouting planes deeply penetrated French territory on the Western Front. They were met with heavy French anti-aircraft lire.

A Brussels message stales that the Germans carried out air raids in the north of France this morning over Lille, Roubaix, and Tourcoing. No details are available.

Yesterday morning’s official French communique stated that there was patrol activity at various points of the front.

In the evening it was announced that on both sides light reconnoitring units had been active between the Moselle and the Saar.
