PRESERVING PEACE ITALY AND GREECE CHECKING PROTECTION DRIVE BY SOVIET (Reed. Nov. 4, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 3. Following yesterday’s announpement from Athens of an exchange of letters between Italy and Greece concerning the friendly relations between the two countries and the maintenance of peace in that part of Europe a message dispatched from Rome to-day ‘.tales that the Italian note to Greece declares that Italy shares the intention of Greece of continuing her peace policy, to which Italy is profoundly attached.

The Athens correspondent of the News Exchange Agency says that the Greek and Italian notes were pubJished in similar terms. Both expressed the hope that the international situation would soon permit the two Governments to give more concrete form to their friendship and collaboration. In the meantime both intended to adhere to the principles of the GreeoItalian pact of 1928. A further report from Athens quotes the Ankara correspondent of (he Athens Neahellas, who declares .hat following the British. French and Turkish treaties, Italy is seeking collaboration in the Balkans, especially with Turkey and Greece, and indirectly with Britain and France, with the object of countering the Soviet’s efforts to become the “protector” of the Balkan States.
