RE-UNION PLANS

GISBORNE EX-SOLDIERS

INTERESTING VISITORS

MAJ.-GEN. SIR A. RUSSELL

Plans for the annual reunion of exservicemen, to be held in the City Hall next Tuesday, the first night of the Show, are now complete, and Diggers throughout the district are justified in expecting that the function will rival any of those of past years in interest and entertainment,

Major-General Sir Andrew Russell is visiting Gisborne and though it is known that he is indisposed, the executive of the Gisborne Returned Soldiers’ Association hopes that his health will permit of his visiting the reunion on Tuesday evening, if only to spend a short time with the men of his old command. Diggers in general will support warmly the hope of the executive, and will welcome the opportunity to meet again the old chief who led the N.Z.E.F. with such distinction during the Great War. Among others who have been invited to attend the reunion as visitors is Colonel Holderness, president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association in Hastings, who has a long-standing connection with the Hawke’s Bay Regiment. Colonel Holderness proposes to make a special visit to Gisborne for the fixture, If business now pressing can be disposed of in. good time.

The programme arranged by the committee should meet with the approval of the Diggers, who will have the opportunity of hearing a number of individual entertainers as well as selections by the popular Diggers’ Choir. Speeches will be limited in number and duration, and the arrangement of the tables will facilitate the main function of the reunion, which is to promote the renewal of old comradeships.
