GISBORNE CLUB MEETS ADDRESS ON “LAW” An instructive address on "Law. Relative to Farming,” was given by Mr. D. E. Chrisp at the monthly meeting of the Gisborne Young Farmers’ Club on Wednesday. Mr. G. W. Smith was in the chair, and there was a good attendance of members.
In his opening remarks Mr. Chrisp dealt with the origin of law and said that in the primitive ages when men began to live together they found it necessary to enforce some rules among themselves. The speaker mentioned that unless law was of a flexible nature, or able to change, it would be useless. In dealing with farming operations, lie described briefly different points of law under the headings of land tenure, mortgages, boundary fences, guarantees and impounding. At the close Mr. Chrisp was asked numerous questions and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
The club decided that the weightestimating competition to be conducted by the club at the A. and P. Show should be in aid of the Red Cross. At a subsequent executive meeting it was decided that a system of lines should be instituted at future meetings and the proceeds should be donated to charily. Mr. R. Pilmcr was appointed "sergeant-at-anns.” It was agreed that committee meetings should be bold prior to the general meetings to deal with general business and correspondence.
An invitation to address the next monthly meeting was extended to Dr. W. A. Bowie. Mr. R. Kerr presented the financial statement, which showed that the club was in a sound position.
