INTER-HOUSE SPORTS
TO BE HELD IN WAIROA UNANIMOUS DECISION AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB (Special to tin* Humid.) WAIROA, this clay. It was unanimously decided at a meeting of the committee of the Wairoa Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club on Wednesday evening to stage an inter-business-house carnival in Wairoa on Saturday, January 15 For the purpose of outlining the procedure and organisation necessary to prepare and stage the carnival Mr." A.' D. Lynch, the organiser of the Napier carnival, attended the meeting. He assured the committee of his co-operation in getting the venture under way and, as an initial offer, he promised to bring lour Napier teams to 1 Wairoa to participate in the carnival. It was reported at the meeting that the response of the business houses in the town had been very satisfactory and already establishments had undertaken to sponsor a team. Each team, it was explained, comprised 12 girls and a leader, and it need not necessarily consist of girls employed in the business of the house sponsoring the team. Any girl could compete in any team. Girls wishing to enrol are urged to leave their name and address at Macdufls, Limited, or Mr. J. R. Gillespie’s pharmacy. It was agreed that the procedurr and training methods be fully explained at a meeting to be called at an early date when all information would be available and movie films o! the Napier carnival would be screened.
It was pointed out that each team would have its own instructor ano applications are invited for team in structors. No previous experience is required and those wishing to assist are asked to leave their name with the secretary of the club, Mr. W. G. Brownlie. Instructors will be coached by a Napier official and given a full schedule of training methods. Inter-house carnivals are being held in nearly all the towns in Hawke’s Bay and there is every reason to believe, judging bv ‘file interest already shown, that Wairoa will be as enthusiastic as other centres in staging its carnival. The nroceeds from the carnival will be devoted to the equipping and improving of the sporting facilities at the Lambton Square ground.
