WAIROA ATHLETES
SEASON OPENING SOON EVENTS FOR LADIES (Special to the Hernia.) WAIROA, this day. The 1939-40 athletic season will be opened in Wairoa on Wednesday, November 15, when the inaugural sports meeting for the season will be held. The prospects this year appear particularly bright, and with a number of new competitors in the district a fillip to the sport 'should result. All of last season’s prominent competitors will be competing again this season, while a number of likely juniors are now resident within the town.
A series of coaching visits by prominent members of the Napier club will be a new feature in the activities. The Napier club has signified its willingness to compete at another carnival week meeting. The introduction of ladies’ events into the meetings should be a popular innovation this year. Excellent material is available in this section of the sport and with novelty events added for the inter-house carnival competitors, considerable interest should be aroused. An experienced lady coach and chaperon has been appointed to watch the interests of all lady competitors. Opening- Programme
