BOWLS AND TENNIS
TOKOMARU BAY CLUBS SEASON OPENED (Herald Correspondent.) The official opening of the 1939-40 season of the bowling and tennis clubs in Tokomaru Bay was unfortunately marred by rain during the latter part of Saturday afternoon. Before declaring the tennis courts open, the president, Mr. G. Glen, thanked all those who had assisted the club in the past season and presentee the previous season’s cups and trophies for the championships to the respective winners. A Yankee tournament could not be completed on account of the rain.
Mr. A. W. Wilkins, president of the bowling club, welcomed the many visiting bowlers and called on Mr. A. Slight to speak on behalf of visitors. Mrs. A. W. Wilkins officially declarcc the green open by rolling the first bowl.

King, Bagge, Law, Harries (s) 11; Slannard, Nevin, Bradley Short (s) 12 v. Beattie, Smyth. Roberts, Slight (s) 8; Lawrence, Forrester, Savage, Hunter (s) 17 v. Eddy. Kay, Wilkins, Christopherson (s) 12 Pethick, Forrester, Jackson, McCready (s) 11 v. Henderson, Rennie, Shaw Glover (s) 10.
