DUNEDIN SOCIAL CLUB SUPPLY OF LIQUOR (Pur Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. “The circumstances are unusual. The case is the first of its kind in Dunedin and rare in the Dominion,’ stated the police prosecutor in the Police Court to-day when the executive officers of the Working Men s Social Club were charged that the club, having no charter, they supplied liquor to members, payment being made indirectly by coupon of a face value of 3d.
The nolice stated that the club was registered under the Friendly Societies Registration Act and had applied for n charter which had been declined. The police stated they honestly believed the defendants acted in the mistaken conception of their rights. The club was well conducted, orderly and drinking activities played a very minor part.
Each defendant was fined 10s,
