GOOD RETURNS
RAILWAY REVENUE POSITION AT WAIROA FAVORABLE COMPARISON ; HIGH TICKET SALES (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. Returns compiled by the Railways Department in Wairoa show that the Napier-Wairoa line is carrying its full quota of goods and passengers, the figures for. this station being well in excess of those for other towns of similar size. The number of passengers carried always has remained at a steady figure, and in several instances it has been necessary to run extra railcars to r carry the volume of traffic. In connection with the passenger returns, it is worthy of note that these do not include ticket sales made in Gisborne. Agencies selling these tickets report that the. demand there is consistent and if these returns could be added to the Woiroa sales they would offer a figure considerably in excess of the present high returns.
For comparison purposes, the Wairoa returns are shown against those from Waipukurau for the same period, the Central Hawke’s Bay station being" of approximately the'same-size as Wairoa. The Waipukurau figures are taken from returns published for the period ending October 14. In the outward revenue Wairoa’s work period for the past three months is considerably better than the returns from Waipukurau for the period to October 14.
For the period ended at that, date the Wairoa outward revenue return was £2597, while for Waipukurau it was £857. ...... ..
On the inward side for the same period Wairoa shows all-round increases over Waipukurau, with the exception of sheep. The increase in total inward revenue is close" on £IOOO.
