PRISONER OF WAR

NEW ZEALAND PILOT

LEARNING GERMAN

(Reed. Oct. 2S, 2.20 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 25

Arriving from Berlin Mr. H. R. Baukage, a national broadcasting commentator, said that the New Zealander, Pilot Officer Edwards, who was taken prisoner by the Germans, was alive and well.

Mr. Baukage declared that the broadcast from a German naval hospital on September 13 was not a fake as had been suggested. Mr. Baukagt interviewed Mr. Edwards, the Irishman, Slattery, and the Yorkshireman, Booth, survivors of the crew of four shot down in the sea. Mr. Edwards had a nose and ear damaged. He was very shy and hesitant about broadcasting. He was facing his imprisonment cheerfully and said “I will employ the time in learning German.”
