KEEN SHEEP DEMAND
SALE AT MATAWHERO FIRST FAT LAMBS 17/8 GOOD BEEF VALUES Offerings in all sections at the Matavvhero stock sale to-day met with a good demand, which was especially keen in the store sheep, in which woolly ewes with lambs reached 25s 9d. The market for fat sheep was also firm, and the first fat lambs of the season changed hands at 17s Bd. The demand was strong for a good offering of beef cattle. Beef The beef offering met with a very good sale. Some good station cows were offered, the best pens making £9 12s, £lO, and £lO 14s. An extra good Jersey cow, prime and heavy, made £8 4s, and good Jersey cows from £4 17s 6d to £6 3s. Prices: —

Jersey, (p) £3 10s; 1, good, Jersey, £4 17s 6d; 1, heavy, prime, Jersey, £8 4s; 1, Jersey, £4; 1, good, Jersey, £6 3s; 1, Jersey, medium finish, £4 13s; 1, Hereford, £9; 1, Hereford, £8 10s; 2, Jersey, £4 17s; 1, Jersey, £5 2s; 2, Jersey, £5; 1, Jersey, £4 4s; 3, Jersey, £4 18s, £4 5s and £4 11s; 3, Jersey, plain, £3 Is. Heifers. —One, good-framed, Jersey, £5 10s; 1, brindle, £6 6s; 1, small, dark, £4; 1, small, Jersey, £4 10s. Fat Sheep The fat sheep market was firm, with woolly ewes making from 19s 9d to 225, shorn ewes 14s, good wethers from 23s 7cl to 245, and hoggets from 19s lcl to 21s. Second grade ewes, shorn, reached 12s, and woolly 15s. The first lambs of the season made 17s Bd. Prices: —
Shorn Ewes.—Four, good, 14s. Woolly Ewes, —Thirty-three, 21s 9d; 375, 19s 7cl; 15, 225; (3, 20s 8d; 14. 20s 7d; 6,16 s 2d. Wethers.—Thirteen, solid, woolly, 23s 7d; 2, 24. Hoggets.—Six, good, Southdown, 21s; 12, 19s lcl.
Lambs.—Eight, first of the season, estimated at about 301 b., 17s Bd. Second grade ewes—Ten, shorn, 12s; 4, woolly, 15s; 8. woolly, 15s.
Store Sheep
For a small yarding there was a very keen demand for store sheep at the following values: Shorn ewes with lambs, 20s 2d to 20s 7d; woolly, do., 21s 3d and 25s 9d; wether hoggets, good, 20s Cd to 21s 3d; wethers, 21s 10d to 22s Gd; store ewes, 15s for young and 10s 7d to 11s 8d for aged, all being in great demand. Good solid Southdown hoggets made 17s 2d. Prices: — Shorn ewes and lambs.—Ten good conditioned shorn ewes and 10 lambs, 20s 7d; 41 fairly good conditioned ewes and 43 solid Southdown lambs, 20s 2d.
Hoggets.—Two hundred and fiftyfour, on account of Mr. E. M. Monckton, good skins, size and condition, 20s Gd; 12, extra good, great size and conditionals 3d. Wethers. —Thirty-six, a good solid conditioned pen, 21s 7d; 8, fat, 22s 6d.
Woolly ewes and lambs.—Ninetytwo and 94 fairly good conditioned ewes and good lambs, 21s 3d; 13 of each, average ewes, good lambs, 25s 9d. Store Ewes. Forty-eight, low mouths, fair condition, Us Id; 11, shorn, good store condition, 11s 4d; 15. medium condition, 10s 7d; 14, shorn, young, fat and forward, 15s; 15, a medium lot, 11s Bcl. Southdown Hoggets.—Five, big, solid, 17s 2d.
