AMATEUR ATHLETES
TRIP TO SOUTH AFRICA POSSIBILITIES FOR 1941 The New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, subject to favourable circumstances, has accepted an invitation to send a New Zealand team to South Africa in 1941. At present the prospects of such a trip eventuating seem remote. If the war is still continuing in 1941, it is certain that the tour will no\ be held, and, provided that peace has been declared, the months suggested for the trip, October and November, do not appear to be suitable for New Zealand athletes.
If the tour is to be held during Tiesc months, it would mean that tin athletes would have to keep fit during the winter months, and for some training would be almost _ impossible during June and July. This obstacle, coupled with the. fact that members of the team would have been without competition for six months, makes it dear that the New Zealanders would find it impossible to perform with any measure of distinction. To send a 'earn under these conditions, with 'ittle prospect of the members producing’ their best form, would not be beneficial to the sport, either in New Zealand - or South Africa.
