Nuhaka Wedding

Schwass—Clayton

Setting of Spring' Flowers

The Anglican Church in Nuhaka was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday, October 21, when Eleanor Josephine, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Clayton, Nuhaka, was married to Eric James, fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Schwass, Waiomoko station, Whangara.

The ceremony was performed by the Rev. John Talbot, Wairoa, and Miss Boyd presided at the organ.

The church had been most artistically decorated with spring flowers by Miss Cavell Black and Miss Leone Tayler, cousin of the bride. The bride, who was escorted by her father, looked charming in a model frock of lotus blue matalasse crepe with trimmings of gold kid. Soft shirring accented the waistline and orange blossom was worn as a shoulder spray. Her navy blue model hat was trimmed with blush pink and blue flowers, and an exquisite bouquet of pink roses and lily-of-the-valley, the artistic work of Mrs. Pierey, Manutuke, was carried. Long navy blue kid gloves and matching shoes completed the ensemble. French Model Frocks The bride was attended by her sisters, the Misses Ailsa and Bettina Clayton, wearing French model frocks in delicate shades of orchid-mauve and sea foam, respectively, trimmed with Valenciennes lace and finished at the necklines with lace flowers. White hats and shoes to match were worn, and their Victorian posies were composed of flowers in mauve tonings. Mr. George Whitmore, Nuhaka, carried out the duties of best man,, and Mr. Vincent Stubbings, Patutahi, was groomsman.

After the ceremony a delightful reception was held at the Unity Hall,Nuhaka. The wedding breakfast was served at flower-decked tables, and at the table of the bridal party the hand-' some three-tier wedding cake, which had been made by the bride’s mother, formed an effective centrepiece. The Rev. J. Talbot acted as toastmaster and the customary toasts were musically honoured. The bride’s gift to the bridegroom was a gold initialled signet ring, and the bridegroom’s present to the bride was a crystal necklace and to the bridesmaids a crystal scent spray and powder bowl, respectively. The bride travelled in an uncrushable silk frock gaily patterned in a floral design, a beige hat, and swagger coat to match, and white accessories. Mrs. Clayton, mother of the bride, was wearing an elegant frock of navy blue and white printed Canadian crepe-de-chine, a navy Baku straw, hat, and southern musquash furs. Her bouquet was composed of mixed flowers in autumn tonings.

Mrs. Schwass, mother of the bridegroom, wore a becoming winecoloured ensemble with a hat to tone and furs, a bouquet of. autumn-tinted blooms completing her toilette. Mrs. E. A. Clayton, Gisborne, grandmother of the bride, was wearing a model gown of navy blue embossed marquesette.

Following the reception the guests motored to the home of the bride’s parents to view the wonderful array of wedding presents, which included many cheques.

The future home of Mr. and Mrs. Schwass will be at Tuhara, Wairoa.
