VARIETY OF CHARGES SPEEDING IN BOROUGH MANY MOTORISTS FINED A variety of charges was heard in the Magistrate’s Court to-day by Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M. Several breaches under the motor regulations were dealt with, many having to do with excessive speed in the restricted areas of the borough. Police Cases In the following police cases, Sen-ior-Sergeant J. F. 11. Macnamara prosecuted:— John Richard Wells, Earl’s Camp, was convicted and fined £2 and costs 12s for failing to keep to his correct side of the road on Otoko Hill and causing the collision of his vehicle with a car driven, by a man named Harries. John McLean was fined 10s and costs 12s for riding a bicycle without at least one hand on the handlebar, and on a charge of riding a cycie without a light at night was convicted and discharged. Borough Inspector’s Charges

The borough traffic inspector, Mr. T. G. Nowell, conducted the following cases:—

Lawrence Burnett was fined 15s and costs 10s for riding a motor-cycle at a speed of 38 m.p.h. in the borough. The Transport Department’s inspector, Mr. R. Metcalfe, gave evidence. Alan Campbell was fined £1 5s and costs 12s for speeding in Gladstone road. Mr. Nowell said that Campbell overtook six cars, his speed being 40 m.p.h.

On a charge of speeding, Henry Pardoe was fined £1 and costs 12s, his speed being 40 m.p.h. in Gladstone road.

For driving a car at a speed of 42 m.p.h. in Gladstone road, Mafeking Pore was lined 15s and costs 17s. Leonard R. Croon was fined 10s and costs 10s for parking in such a manner as to cause an obstruction.

William Douglas was convicted and ordered to pay costs 10s for driving a lorry that was not furnished with a silencer. Tom Kini was fined 15s and costs 15s for riding a bicycle at night without a light. Mr. Metcalfe said the defendant was riding on the Ballance street footbridge at the time of the offence.

Thomas 11. McCallum (Mr. T. S. Wauchop) was fined £1 and costs 12s on a charge of driving at a speed of 45 m.p.h. in the borough. Mr. Wauchop said that The offence was commuted early in the morning when there wasjro traffic about. McCallum had estimated his speed at 40 m.p.h. at the time

For obstructing traffic by parking cn a corner, Arthur T. Warren (Mr. L. T. Barnard), was fined 15s and costs 10s. Mr. Nowell daid that Warren had parked his car at the intersection of Peel street and Palmerston road in a manner”that interfered with the oedestrian traffic.
