(Blue. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Oct. 2G, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 25. The Tokio correspondent of the United Press of America says that Japan has pushed the efforts to improve relations with the United States and find grounds for a solution of the difficulties with Russia, but the indications are that she is meeting difficulties with both nations. A date has not been set for conversations between the Japanese Myiister and the American Ambassador about a temporary agreement after the expiration of the commercial treaty of January 26, 1940. The Tokio press reports that the United States Government is contemplating some active intervention in
China. 1 > Proposals Suggested The Domei News Agency says that important proposals were made to Washington through the American Ambassador in China, hinting that they were linked with the suggestion of the Chinese Foreign Minister, Mr. Chung Hui. that the United States Government was in a favourable position to act as mediator and bring the Sino-Japanese hostilities to an early end.
The difficulty of the Japanese, negotiations with Russia are said in Tokio to have increased by the reports of Russian military aid to China. 'Diplomatic circles in Washington, however, say that the Secretary of State, Mr. Cordell Hull, is without information regarding any Chinese proposal that the United States should mediate in the Japanese conflict.
