VIVIAN’S MESSAGE
SAFE IN NEW YORK PARENTS INFORMED A message despatched from London on Monday stated that the passengers in the Bibbv Line vessel Yorkshire, which was torpedoed in mid-Atlantic last week, included Mr. H. G. Vivian, the Auckland and New Zealand representative cricketer.
The Auckland Herald reports that Mr. Vivian's parents, on Tuesday received a cablegram from him stating that he was safe and well in New York.
The cricketer, who is 27 years of age, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. V/. Vivian, of Woodford Road, Mount Eden.. For the past 10 years he has been one of the leading cricketers in the Dominion, being ranked among he finest all-round players the country has produced. He was a member of the New Zealand teams which visited England in. 1931 and 1937, being vice-captain of the latter side. Following on the visit of Sir Julien Calm’s team to New Zealand last season, Mr. Vivian was invited by Sir Julien to take up a position in his furniture business in England. He appeared to have a promising career ahead of him in England, but the outbreak of the war upset his plans.
