TRADE OF NEUTRALS
ACTIVITY BY BRITAIN BARTER WITH SOVIET (British Official Wireless.) Reed. noon. RUGBY, Oct. 25. Asked in the House of Commons if, in order to prevent neutral, especially Scandinavian, countries coming under German economic influence, he would consider what steps could be taken for Britain to acquire as large a proportion as possible of the exports of these countries for consumption here or for re-sale on the world market, the Minister lor Economic Warfare, Mr. Ronald Cross, replied: “I have these considerations fully in mind and certain purchases already have been made.”
The Under-Secretary to the Foreign Office, Mr. R. A. Butler, said the possibility of following up the recent agreement with the Soviet Government for the exchange of timber against rubber and tin by a fresh arrangement suitable to war conditions was now under examination.
